Before watching this movie, on a scale of 1-10, how much are you looking forward to seeing it again?
Ahhh, I'm gonna give it an 8. It's not the strongest story in the world by any means, but it isn't absolutely terrible.

To clarify, yes, the original Japanese version has the characters speaking English, so at the bottom of the screen originally was the Japanese translation so that the audience members could understand what was going on. TMS? Leaving the original text wouldn't have killed you. I don't NEED subtitles for this part. I can understand my mother language perfectly well, thank you. :|

…Ran. Seriously. You KNOW Conan likes Sherlock Holmes. You honestly don't think something like the fact he should only have the kanji-reading ability of a 1st grader would stop him from reading translated English stories, do you? I mean…come on! You've seen in the past he can read well above his supposed grade level. :|

2) He's a fictional character.
3) HE'S THE ENEMY OF YOUR IDOL SHERLOCK HOLMES. Why the HELL are you even bothering?! Especially since that's originally how Holmes dies! o_o; (I know Conan gives an explanation for himself, but seriously, WHAT?)
I'm just gonna throw this out there: What on Earth were the creators of this movie on when they were tossing around story ideas? o_o;; Honestly I can't get behind the murder, the motive, and so on. Really the only excuse I can find for the setting to be a video game in the first place is that the staff wanted to have Conan interact with Victorian London and Holmes. It's not a terrible flick, but it's certainly not as good as some of the movies we've seen so far. I certainly don't recommend showing this movie to somebody as an introduction to the series.
What's one thing you noticed/realized about this episode that you hadn't before?
The text on the first image reads 'White Princess'. I can't remember if this is a nickname Yukiko had in the past when she was acting or if this was simply the name of something she worked on… The second image has her name written in English and then on the side in Japanese. Third image beginning on the right reads 'Goodbye to Tomorrow' ('Ashita ni sayonara'). I'm not sure what the next set of kanji reads, but below that is 'Yukiko Kudo'. Since the man in the image appears to be Yuusaku, I'd assume this would be part of her announcement of retirement and not some random movie poster.
EDIT: Apparently the kanji I couldn't read says 'Starring'. Thank you, michaelelecsgo!
Genta remarks that Conan hasn't even beaten Final Quest yet. If I had to make a guess, it sounds like the story writers combined Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest together.
For anybody who hasn't actually read the Holmes stories, this movie does a pretty good job giving a very rough gist of characters and stories. We get references to Inspector Lestrade, meet Mrs. Hudson, a reference to 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' case, and the Baker Street Irregulars. (I always wondered if Aoyama ever thought to call the Detective Boys 'The Beika City Irregulars'.) Later on of course we get to see Colonel Sebastian Moran, Professor James Moriarty, and the story's interpretation of Irene Adler…ala Yukiko Kudo. :D;
The animators did quite a bit of research when drawing London and Holmes' lodgings at Baker Street. From what I can tell based on the original ending credit sequence, it seems the animators travelled to London and took footage of the city and also of the Sherlock Holmes Museum located on Baker Street. Visitors to the Museum get to meet and speak with Dr. Watson and explore Holmes' residence. (Least that's what I've heard from Icka who actually got to visit. :) ) We'll actually see the Museum during the London arc in the anime when we get to it.
Just behind Ran's head is the 'VR' (stands for 'Victoria Regina' meaning Queen Victoria) Holmes shot into the wall in 'The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual'.
Despite the movie's claims here, the second JTR victim was actually a lady named Annie Chapman. Honey Charleston was a character created for this particular movie's plot. There are five murders generally accepted to have been done by JTR, but apparently there are another four murders in White Chapel accredited to him. The real second victim, Annie Chapman, sold crochet works, flowers, and was a prostitute. Prostitution was a common link among the JTR victims. I won't get into details of the murders as it's rather gruesome to think about, but if you're interested there's plenty of reading material out there detailing the crimes of JTR.
I'll throw this a side note as I probably won't get to anywhere else…The man Sir Arthur Conan Doyle based Sherlock Holmes on, Dr. Joseph Bell, was actually consulted regarding the JTR murders. Bell and another man, Sir Henry Littlejohn, studied the evidence on their own, reached their conclusions and picked out the same suspect. The story goes that they did send their findings to Scotland Yard, but there are no such reports in the archives or recorded commentary, so no one knows for sure which suspect they chose.
The animators seem to be channeling the works of Alphonse Mucha here. I'm not quite sure how well-known he would have been at this point of time, but he did actually do work for theatrical design companies, mostly painting scenery.

I'm not sure how accurate these particular lights are, but apparently electric lights were being used in more modern adapted theaters by the 1890s.
It's really hard to tell, but Yuusaku's mustache isn't coloured in this scene.
